Day 13 Monday July 18

Today was a slow morning but around 3 pm our class made our way over to Case Romane del Celio or The Roman Houses. They are located beneath the church of S.S. Giovanni and Paolo and are the property of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In 1887 the site of about 20 rooms decorated with paintings from the 3rd- 12th centuries was discovered. After that we made our way over to the Basilica San Clemente. The basilica, dedicated to St. Clement (the 4th Pope) is one of the oldest and best preserved Roman basilicas. it consists of 2 churches, the upper and lower church. After leaving the basilica we went out for an early dinner at Naomachia and then went to the grocery store. Later that night we went to Scholars.
