Day 9 Thursday July 14

day the entire Fordham program took a day trip to Orvieto. After an 1.5 hour bus ride we arrived and took a short shuttle to the top, as the town sits on a big chunk of volcanic rock called tuff. We first visited the impressive cathedral in the town. In the 1260s, a skeptical priest who doubted the communion bread was really the body of Christ passed through Bolsena on route to Rome. During mass, the bread bled, staining a linen cloth. The cloth was brought to the Pope who was visiting Orvieto at the time. Thus the relic inspired the church to be built. To the right of the altar is the chapel of St. Brizio which features frescoes of the Apocalypse. We were also able to enjoy a singing group who performed at the cathedral while we were there.

ToAfterwards we all went out for a lavish feast which started with a plate of appetizers such as bruschetta and prosciutto, followed by truffle pasta and ended with tiramisu. Each course was delicious and the house wine wasn't too bad either! After lunch we spent the afternoon shopping, and stopped for gelatti. When we arrived back at home we ended the night at our usual haunt, Scholars.

Looks like worms but was delicious!
